Shipping Policy

Thank you for visiting and shopping at The MIT Press Bookstore. Following are the terms and conditions for our shipping policy.

Store Pickup

You can save on shipping by choosing store pickup during checkout. Please review our business hours to ensure store pickup is the best option for you. After placing an order for store pickup for a book that is currently in stock on our shelves, your order will be ready within 1-3 business days. If the book is not in stock on our shelves, please allow an additional 3-7 business days* for your order to be ready. We will notify you when the order is ready for pickup.

Books that are not picked up within 14 business days after becoming ready for pickup will be refunded and returned to the shelf.

Domestic Shipping

All orders for books currently in stock on our shelves are processed within 2-3 business days. If the book is not in stock on our shelves, please allow an additional 3-7 business days* for the book to arrive in store prior to shipping. Orders are not processed or shipped on weekends and holidays. We do not ship to military APO/FPO.

If we are experiencing a high volume of orders, shipments may be delayed by a few days. Delivery delays can occasionally occur.

Media Mail has longer delivery time and is not insured.

Shipping rates & delivery estimates

Shipping charges for your order will be calculated and displayed during checkout. If you choose to have the books shipped as they become available, the total shipping charge is likely to be higher than what is calculated during checkout.

USPS Media Mail: $4.95 + $0.95 for each additional item after the first item.

UPS Ground: $9.00 + $1.00 for each additional item after the first item.

International Shipping

We offer international shipping via USPS International: $35.00 + $1.50 for each additional item after the first item.  
Media Mail and UPS Ground are NOT options for international shipping.  Any international orders placed without USPS International as the shipping choice will be cancelled and refunded.

1/31/24 Note: There is a known error affecting selection of USPS International shipping for some orders.  If you are unable to select USPS International shipping for your order, please contact books@mit.edu for assistance.

Please note we are unable to ship to Africa, the Arctic and Antarctic, and the Middle East.  Within Asia, we can ship only to Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, and Taiwan. 

Your order may be subject to import duties and taxes (including VAT), which are incurred once a shipment reaches your destination country. The MIT Press Bookstore is not responsible for these charges if they are applied and are your responsibility as a customer.

How do I check the status of my order?

When your order has been shipped, you will receive an email notification from us. You can login to the website at any time to check the status of the order and the tracking number.

*Ship time from publishers/distributors is a general estimate and may be subject to change.
