Here are some frequently asked questions, and some answers!

Does MIT Press Bookstore only sell books published by the MIT Press?

Not at all!  We sell many MIT Press publications, as well as books from a wide array of other publishers and distributors.

May I order desk, examination, or review copies of books from you?
Sorry, the MIT Press Bookstore can't fulfill requests for desk, examination, and review copies.
For desk and examination copies of MIT Press publications, please visit mitpress.mit.edu, look up the book, and select the grey "Request exam/desk copy" button.

For review copies of MIT Press publications, please visit https://mitpress.mit.edu/media-inquiries/.

For desk, examination, and review copies of non-MIT Press publications, please contact the book's publisher.

I placed an order for a book listed on your website as "Usually ships in 1-5 days" or "Special Order—subject to availability."  What does this mean?

Stock availability notes appear with each title on the MIT Press Bookstore website as a general guideline to how your order will be fulfilled.

On Our Shelves Now: The book is in stock at the MIT Press Bookstore at the time of order placement.

Usually Ships in 1-5 Days: The book is not on our shelves, but it is likely in print and available to order from the publisher or distributor.  Once an order is placed by the MIT Press Bookstore for the book, it will usually ship within 1-5 business days.

Special OrderSubject to Availability: The book is not on our shelves, but it may be available to order.   It is possible that the book is out of stock or out of print, or that it may take longer than 1-5 business days for the publisher or distributor to process orders for it.  MIT Press Bookstore staff will research availability and update you about your order.

Available for Preorder: The book is not yet published.  Orders will not be fulfilled until on or after the publication date.  Please note that publication dates are subject to change.

Holiday Shipping Information:

We're delighted to be your source for books this holiday season.

While we'll do all we can to process orders in time for holiday gift-giving, receipt of purchased materials on or before specific dates is not guaranteed.

Books which are not listed as 'On Our Shelves Now' are not in the store and need to be ordered before they can be shipped or picked up.

Orders are not processed during times when the MIT Press Bookstore is closed.

Our last business day before Christmas is Friday, December 22, 2023.  We will reopen on Tuesday, January 2, 2024.
